November 2001

First five days was spent in Parkalompolo and November 1-4 was great for USA reception on MW!
November 4th the proton flux exploded and a day later the record level of 30,000 was noted!
Comparing it to the September disturbance this would mean four weeks without Northamerican signals passing the polar region! But a high A-index neutralized most of the effect early in this
period so it only took two weeks to recover this time! In the middle of Sweden (Reports from
SW in Hammarstrand.) signals from USA was noted around November 13th again even if it
was only weak signals from a couple of standard stations!

The Proton Flux soon reaches the 0.2 level when other solar and geomagnetic
condions are more critical than the 10 MeV Proton Flux level! It has been impossible this fall
to pin down the "28 day cycle"! There has not been 28 days without proton influence!

I hope conditions are not recovering too quickly  as I have been "blessed" with an electric
QRN now that has not been here before! It ticks so probably an electric fence?

1-5.11      PARKALOMPOLO EXPEDITION PAX12  (BOS + KUN)  Compare PAX12 log!
6-12.11    Nothing heard.  A PCA:s and a constant and high proton level was the reason.
13-30.11    Almost no listening but probably would not have heard anything reportable in all month if I had
tried! A few NF/NS stations around 0330 on November 22nd when I got up to take an early
flight. The last days of the month the Proton level finally went down below the critical level.

North America (UTC)

Nothing identified in all month!

PAX13 and the Parkalompolo plans.
There will be an expedition in late November and/or early December (Contact SW or me!)
Next Parkalompolo expedion will probably be December 27 to January 6 and this will
mean a number of new faces in this QTH. The MRS Club of Stockholm will have a
first experience with this QTH! Probably one or two others will join them too.
At least one more expedition is planned for January/February sometime.
I will try to join an expedition or two too! It only takes me four hours to
go there so I can join just for a weekend if conditions are right!
