My long wires catches in full daylight signals so weak that my very sensitive receivers just don't detect them!  But when you connect a low noise video amplifier in front of the splitter and boost the signals by 20dB a new world opens up! Suddenly stations are readable and reportable even though they don't touch the S-meter! I've built and tested several designs and most of them works well if they have a bandpass filter in front. Or a preselector. (But I hate knobs and flashy functions.  That is why I listen in AM mode and my ideal radio only have volume and dial to adjust.) Here in Byske and especially up in Parkalompolo the signal handling is an easy task after sunrise so the HF booster can be made fairly simple. A good Signal/Noise figure and sufficient amplification is what counts.
